Heather Fell, Olympic modern pentathlete silver medalist, writes about her life 'on and off' the track.
ANOTHER week has flown by, undoubtedly sped up by the ever-looming world championships. I know deep down that I've done all the training I can and everything is on track but somehow as a big event gets closer one always hopes for a little extra time.
I'm still yet to recover completely from last weeks fall and as a result did have to adapt my training but the extra rest has probably done me good. Disappointingly, there is nothing to show for my discomfort, however my right leg has caught attention for the wrong reasons - it's sporting some rather unattractive fencing bruises (lets hope I've got them all out the way before this weeks World's!).
This final week of preparation I've been trying to stick to strict instructions not to travel. I think I've done well with just a trip back to Bath at the start of the week and a visit to London this weekend gone. It was a result of this curfew that an entourage of a stylist, photographer, artistic director and two assistants headed down from the capital to do a photo shoot with me. I must admit I did feel a little spoilt but thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience especially the 'superwoman' themed shots; watch out Gorgs Geikie there could be a rival 'Lara Croft' in the Westcountry!
This Sunday gone my body had a rest day but my vocal cords were put into overdrive. Don't worry I wasn't singing - I couldn't do that to anyone - I was doing something that I love, talking! I was asked to commentate on the WWF Blue mile event being run by Conrad Humphries (the 'round the world' sailor) and his team. This was something I've never even attempted before but an opportunity I couldn't resist. So I jumped head first into the deep end and what a great day I had; I just hope some of the spectators/listeners did too!
