Heather Fell, Olympic modern pentathlete silver medalist, writes about her life 'on and off' the track.

IT's good news; my last competition impressed the selectors sufficiently to ensure my selection for the first World Cup. I'm obviously excited to be competing but the fact that it's in California has put an even larger spring in my step!

As for the rest of the season the next world cup was planned for Cairo as well as the World Championships in September — I hope they get swapped for somewhere exotic - so I expect it will be back to Eastern Europe.

It was another trip to London too this week (with my phone securely in my pocket!). I had my first taste of commuting when catching the early train to the city. I rather enjoyed putting on something smart and leaving my trainers and tracksuit behind, although I think the novelty might where off if I were to attempt it daily. The fact I was back at my flat by 3.30pm after a morning of networking and lunch probably was not too true a reflection of a 'normal' commuters day.

Thanks to my fencing competition being held on a Saturday I've at last been able to enjoy a slightly more relaxed weekend. However, as a result of the sociable Saturday evening the Sunday has been considerably less so! I then managed a fleeting visit back home, of course primarily to see family - the fact my fridge is empty and my boiler isn't functioning had nothing to do with it!
