Each week West Devon's Heather Fell, Olympic modern pentathlete silver medalist, writes for Times Sport about her life 'on and off' the track.

I'VE just returned from the Berlin world cup, the final competition of the World Cup Series. I didn't get the result I wanted. In two weeks the World Cup final will be held in Moscow. The top 36 ranked athletes from the World Cup rankings will compete in the straight final, but I won't be there. Great Britain has seven women in the top 36 but only three from each country may compete. Unfortunately I'm fourth ranked Brit in this series.

However, the season is not over yet. I'm now waiting to hear the British selection of the four person team for Europeans. The European and World Championships are the main events this season, so I'll be waiting with my fingers crossed.

This week I was given an official week off but felt the need to train after my latest performance. I got in some quality training on the new track with Tavy athletics club and in the pool with the Kelly College squad. I find the early mornings so much easier with the sun shining before I get up! Had an extra early start on Thursday to fit in a session to earn a fun day out at the Royal Cornwall show. Plenty to see, taste and buy and that was just the food tent!

On Friday I had a different challenge, to fence the BBC Radio Devon presenter Gordon Sparks. He had the advantage of a good foot in height over me but with only one hour of training under his belt I was odds on favourite. Complacency had me only ahead by one after five hits...but I soon turned that round to win 15-3. Hope Sparksy wasn't too sore the next day.

I had a career 'first' on Saturday morning. My first radio show! Well I was really just John Govier's co-host on radio Devon. Still it was my first experience of live radio from the presenters chair, and I loved it.
