ENVIRONMENT Agency contractors were called in to Tavistock this week after a tree became jammed on the weir in the River Tavy, by Abbey Bridge. The large tree trunk appeared to have been in the water for some time. Town clerk Roger Howard said: ?It?s absolutely enormous. Luckily, it went through the bridge without bashing the sides ? I think if it had got jammed across we could have had flooding problems.? The log was due to be removed by Environment Agency contractors using a winch tractor on Tuesday. A spokesman for the agency said: ?It?s not seriously holding up the flow of water at the moment, but with heavy rain forecast this week, the sooner we get it out, the better.?
