FEELINGS were running high at a meeting on Friday (February 8) called to discuss the scale of housing development being imposed on Tavistock.

Town councillors and residents were among more than 100 people at the meeting held by the Devon branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) at the Bedford Hotel.

The seminar was well-attended amid concerns over more than 1,200 houses which have been granted planning permission in the town, with a further 400-odd houses being proposed.

Worries were raised about developers wriggling out of their commitment to provide affordable housing and other facilities for the community promised through Section 106 agreements with the council.
