WEST Devon residents have been awarded another accolade to add to their crown as best recyclers in the county. The borough has won a highly commended Quality Award for supplying consistently good quality newspapers and magazines for recycling to paper re-processors Aylesford Newsprint in Kent. Paper makes up around one-third of West Devon?s total recycling and over the last year, around 1,400 tonnes has been collected from kerbside Green Boxes and a further 215 tonnes from West Devon paper banks. Jane Savage, West Devon Borough Council recycling officer, said: ?This award is recognition that the paper we collect for recycling is of the correct type and is presented in a clean manner. ?It helps tremendously that most residents keep paper separate from other materials by bagging it before putting in the kerbside boxes. ?It is also a reflection of the conscientiousness of our recycling crews when sorting the paper on the kerbside collections. An all round good effort.?
