Duchy division 1 Lamerton 3 Mary Tavy 1 THIS long awaited derby was fast and furious played in boggy conditions and a niggly atmosphere. Tavy took the lead in the first minutes: A ball in from the wing was poorly dealt with by the Lamerton defence, and Wayne Cornish took advantage, firing home from outside the box. Steve Trebilcock?s challenge after just five minutes exemplified the heat, which saw him booked and Steve Wickett departing with a suspected broken ankle. Lee Wickett came on and Lamerton took control, equalising on 25 minutes. Kyle McLaughlin released striker Pete Broomfield down the wing, and he swept across a fine ball, which gave Dave Byworth a tap in. Lamerton then dominated, but Tavy keeper Tony Rawlins kept them in the game with some exceptional saves; most notably from Paul Breyley?s 25 yard rasper. Lamerton then squandered three clear attempts from inside 10 yards and Lee Wickett, who had a goal disallowed when the ref surprisingly overruled the away linesman also missed when put through on goal, making it even at half time. Tavy improved for the second half. The heat never subsided; Nick Johns already on a yellow was lucky to remain on the pitch when he scythed down Wickett; another poor tackle saw the influential James Philpotts retire hurt for Tavy and in the last minutes, Stephens for Tavy kicked out after a challenge and saw red. Lamerton deservedly wrapped up a game devoid of football when Dan Healy got to the by-line and planted a ball onto Lee Wickett?s head, to make it 3-1. This week Lamerton are home to St Merryn and Tavy away to Pensilva, 2.30pm kick off.
