OUTRAGEOUS platform shoes and big bell bottoms are being donned for a Blast from the Past themed fundraising event at Focus DIY in Tavistock this month. Staff from the store are joining other stores across the country in hosting a mix of family activities in a national bid to raise more than £100,000 to support the Meningitis Trust. They will be dressing up for the occasion in their favourite party outfits from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Other in-store activities include a raffle with some exciting prizes, a loudest tie competition and name the teddy. Focus and its customers have been supporting the charity for six years and have helped raise nearly £1 million. Clare Latham at Focus DIY, said: ?Each year the staff at Focus and our fantastic customers have shown tremendous support for this annual event, which always results in a huge amount of money being raised for a very worth while charity.? Last year fundraisers from across the country raised £100,813.96 ? this year they hope to do even better. Jane Denley, Meningitis Trust corporate fundraiser, said: ?Focus?s fundraising weekend is always a highlight in our calendar. ?I am particularly looking forward to seeing this year?s Blast from the Past colourful fancy dress outfits.? The fun and frolics begin at 9am on Saturday September 16 and everyone is invited to come along and take part.
