NO sooner does a good thing become an established tradition than the belt braces jockstrap and string brigade contrive to ruin it. Tavistock?s Balloon Fiesta has, we are told, been cancelled because some timid twit with too little real work to occupy his second brain cell has ruled that propane cylinders may not henceforth be filled from mobile tankers. This, it seems, has arisen from some incident (unspecified) with a caravan cylinder somewhere in mainland Europe. It is almost farcical enough to make one take UKIP seriously. Mind you, given that the A38 is to be reduced to a byway for six months, contemporaneously with the long-overdue abolition of the Merrymeet roundabout on the A30; all this close on the heels of our beloved government?s decision to over-overload the M5 instead of dualling the A303 . . . does it matter much?
