A STONE deaf and arthritic golden retriever from Whitchurch celebrates the grand old age of 16 next week — or an incredible 112 in canine years.
Major (pictured left) or Fang to his friends, belongs to Graham Leech and is well-known to dog walkers in the area.
Graham said: 'His eyesight isn't what it was but he still greets all his fellow Whitchurch inhabitants with a smile.'
Major belonged to Graham's father and moved in when he died three years ago.
'At that time he was in a bit of a state — we took him down to the vets at Westmoor who did wonders with him.
'We're delighted to have him still with us — he is a very poignant reminder and every day we have him is a bonus,' said Graham.
There are no big celebrations planned for Major's big day although Graham said he will probably find him 'something special' for a birthday treat.
'Last year we tied some inflatable balloons to his collar for his walk!' he said.
Meanwhile, Major is getting on with the serious business of sleeping, eating — and a bit more sleeping.
