TAVISTOCK's most famous shop is to be put up for sale.

N H Creber Ltd has been owned by the Creber family since 1881 and the half-timbered shop building is one of Tavistock's most well known landmarks.

Creber's manager Vic Stacey this week confirmed that the shop is about to be put on the market by owner Doreen Creber.

Mr Stacey said: 'We have a good business, a thriving business, and it is being sold as a going concern.'

Creber's is known throughout the country and abroad, as orders for wine, cheese, clotted cream and other delicatessen goods are received from as far afield as Australia.

Mr Stacey said: 'We've probably got one of the best businesses in the South West — we've been around a long time and the name means a lot to people.

'We have regular customers from Penzance, Bath and Bristol and we send orders all over the place.'

Mr Stacey said already enquiries from interested parties are being received.

He said the intention was to keep on all the staff at the shop, several of whom have worked for Creber's for many years.

'Certainly everything is being done to secure staff jobs,' said Mr Stacey.

Solicitors Chilcotts confirmed that an agent has been instructed with the sale of Creber's.
