A FAMILY fun day is taking place on Sunday (September 24) in Tavistock in support of a family whose young daughter is going through treatment for cancer.

There will be face painting, a football match, a bouncy castle, an auction, a raffle, and karaoke, live music and a barbecue at the Sunday Funday which starts at 2pm. It is taking place at the Red and Black Club at Tavistock Football Club on Langsford Road.

Will Stuart is organising the day to raise funds for friends Jake and Becky Hurle and their children Ivy, three, and Sunny, who celebrates his first birthday on Monday.

The family, from Tavistock, have had a tough year, after daughter Ivy was diagnosed with stage four Wilm’s Tumour, a cancer which started in her right kidney and spread to her lungs, in February this year.

She underwent six weeks of intensive chemotherapy at Bristol Children’s Hospital, followed by surgery and further radiotherapy. The treatment is ongoing, and she is due to start further chemotherapy next week.

Will said: ‘Jake has been my closest friend for many years and thus by default so has his wife Becky. This day is all about giving them all something to look forward to during Ivy’s on going treatment and also celebrating their second child’s first birthday which is the day after.

‘We all live in Tavistock and I just really want to show them that people are always there for them!

‘Any money we manage to raise on the day will go to the family to give them a fund to ease the current burden and/or to give them something to look forward to when the treatment is over and Ivy has recovered.’
