A BIG family party was held in Bere Ferrers last weekend, to celebrate the 80th birthday of one of the village residents.
Barbara Bennett celebrated her big day in style, surrounded by around 50 members of her family, including six of her grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The party was organised by daughter Viv Kirby and granddaughter Abby Buckley.
Viv said: 'Two years ago mum had a huge cancer operation, she was really quite ill, and she had only just got to grips with losing Dad, so it was great to see her well and enjoying herself.
'She loved the party, she had a great time.'
Viv said most members of the family were able to get to the party, with two of Barbara's brothers bringing back memories for Barbara, with a rendition of a song they used to sing in the air-raid shelters during the second world war.
The family clubbed together to buy Barbara a new garden shed for her birthday — a family working party spent the day after the birthday party dismantling her old shed and putting up the new one.
