OKEHAMPTON Cycle Club held their final open 10 mile time trial of the season last Saturday, which incorporated the South West District Championship.

On a warm and sunny evening with little wind to hinder the 26 riders taking part, expectations were high of fast times.

The course starts on the A30 west of Sourton and proceeds to Stowford Cross junction before crossing the flyover bridge and returning on the eastbound carriageway.

There were some good times with less than 10 seconds covering the first three riders home. The overall winner was Jason Ball (Bournemouth Arrow), clocking 20.45 with second placed Julius Jennings (CS Dynamo), a mere three seconds behind on 20.48. Third pace went to Mark Sanders (Mid Devon CC) with 20.54. Jackie Rice (OKCC), 23.27, took the ladies? prize.

The placings for the South West Championship were decided with Julius Jennings taking the championship trophy and medal. Jacky Rice took the ladies? championship medal with Tony Farnell (Penzance Wheelers) the veteran?s medal.

A team medal went to the trio Martin Page, Mike Parker and Mark Sanders, aggregate time 65.05, representing Mid Devon CC.

The first Okehampton CC rider home was Andrew Retter with a time of 22.19, which helped him to take the club?s own 10 mile time trial trophy. The ideal weather conditions also helped all the club members participating break their personal best times for the distance, so it was congratulations to Andrew Retter, 22.19; Sean Quigly, 22.42; Jacky Rice, 23.27; Nigel Williams 24.50; and Dave Baskerville, 25.26.

Thanks went to all the timekeepers, marshals and of course the ladies providing refreshments which made it such a successful event.

The Okehampton Cycle Club summer time trial series recently finished and topping the points table is Sean Quigly, followed by Jon Short.
