THE carol service at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre in Lifton was held on Sunday and was staged in the new fairground building for the first time. All admission receipts, along with the takings from the popular coconut sheet plate smasher and penny arcade, were donated to the Children?s Hospice South West. In addition, the charity brought along two of its fundraising stalls. The service was conducted by the Rev Jenny Arscott, Vicar of Lifton, and the carols were sung to the accompaniment of Hatherleigh Silver Band. After the service, the rides, powered by two steam-powered Burrell Showman?s Engines Rajah and Star, were enjoyed by many of the congregation. A spokeswomen for the charity said she was delighted with the proceeds from a ?most enjoyable event?. The service will be repeated next year, and it is hoped a choir can be introduced to the event.
