Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 0 Chudleigh 0 TAVISTOCK knew this was going to be a tough match as both themselves and Chudleigh were sat in second and third position in the league and this was purely based on goal difference. All the players were keen to get possession and although the midfield of Tavistock were playing the forward line could not seem to lose the opposition when being marked up. Susannah Boulle and Sarah Barratt kept the opposition at bay on the left hand side of the pitch. The odd time they did sneak through Fiona Dunn made good tackles resulting in the ball being able to be fed back to the running play of Julia Firth and Laura Armstrong. Armstrong fed some good balls into the ?D? but other players were not able to get on the end of them. Emma White was back playing again and she had a tough match with marking out some fit players. White rose to the challenge and made some excellent interceptions. It did appear in the latter stages of the first half that Tavistock were the dominant team. Unfortunately it was not going to be a game where the goals came easily. The second-half of the match was very much as the first one with both teams not really playing smooth hockey. Tavistock were extremely unfortunate to have so many short corners awarded against them and Chudleigh would have scored if Bex Creasy had not made some excellent saves in goal. There were other times in the second half that Creasy kept the score line down to zero for the opposition. Laura Stapleton and Lisa Butler worked hard and despite moved off the ball onto the floor, these players kept their cool and hassled well in order to win the ball. Firth had a better game in the second-half and really battled to win possession of the ball and link with Barratt and Armstrong. With less than two minutes remaining it did appear as if Sarah Barratt had scored a goal as she and the keeper ran to the ball in the ?D?. The team were sure Barratt had touched the ball in the ?D? but the goal was disallowed. The 0-0 draw was probably the fairest way to end the match between two teams that are very close in their level of hockey. This week Tavistock are away to St Austell 2nds. Tavistock: Bex Creasy, Babs Horton, Fiona Dunn (captain), Laura Stapleton, Lisa Butler, Sarah Barratt, Susannah Boulle, Emma White, Julia Firth, Robynne Honey, Jo Gaspar, Laura Armstrong. Player of The match: Bex Creasy.
