First extra preliminary round of the FA Cup

Keynsham 0

Tavistock AFC 2

THE Lambs travelled to Western League, Keynsham near Bristol on Saturday, in this first extra preliminary round of The FA Cup, and came away worthy winners.

The all round team performance was very good with everyone giving their all.

The Lambs almost took the lead in the sixth minute when Jamie Aherns Header just went wide of the far post. The visitors continue to be the attacking force and got their deserved lead in the 17th minute.

Garry Williams floated a free kick in behind the Keynsham defence, which found Dan Pethick who timed his run to perfection, ghosting in and rounded keeper Lionel Sear, before slotting the ball into the net.

Keynsham had their first real opportunity to open their account in the 34th minute, but John Mayo headed wide when well placed. Minutes later, Scott Green headed wide from a free kick.

The Lambs continued to control the game and should have increased their lead before the interval, but the Keynsham defence held firm.

Early in the second period Chris Head broke down the right and put in great cross which saw Dan Pethicks first time volley fly just wide of the far post.

The Lambs should have doubled their lead in the 60th minute when once again Chris Head produce a great cross which Dan Pethick just failed to convert.

Keynsham substitute Andrew Hamilton-Dunn almost scored with his first kick, but his effort was well saved by Andy Meeds.

The home side were reduced to ten men in the 68th minute when Tony Pike deliberately brought down Lambs substitute Mark Conday, just outside the penalty area. Pike was given a straight red card as he was the last defender.

The Lambs made the extra man advantage tell and dominated the remainder of the game, and it was no surprise when Chris Head doubled the score in the 88th minute.

This great team performance, has now landed the Lambs a plum tie against Southern League side Taunton Town at Langsford Park on Saturday, August 28. The club would welcome support for the team in this important FA Cup tie.

n On Saturday the Lambs are at home to Cullompton, kick-off 3pm. The reserves visit St Stephens Borough, kick-off 3pm.
