THE Polmear Ambache Duo come to the Wharf, Tavistock with a programme that explores various aspects of the Romantic period when music of the heart reigned supreme. Appearing at the art centre on Thursday, February 10 they will play music from three countries. The French pieces show the widest chronological range, from Widerkehr?s remarkably forward-looking sonata of 1817 to Saint-Saens? retrospective one of 1921. German poetic seriousness is present in Brahms? piano Intermezzi Op 117, and the exquisite subtleties of the Romances Op 94 by Schumann. By contrast the Italian contributions show the operatic extravagance together with the cult of the instrumental virtuoso. Wharf box office: 01822 611166
