A MEETING where farmers can learn more about control of orf and other viral diseases in sheep or lambs is taking place in Okehampton next week.

Most farmers have had the misfortune to see orf in their sheep or lambs. A nasty viral disease that causes painful scabby lesions, orf is a serious welfare problem. This free animal health meeting is designed to give farmers information to help them combat the disease, as well as the other main viral sheep diseases found in the UK. The meeting will be held at Betty Cottles Inn, Okehampton, on Monday, November 8.

Dr Peter Nettleton, one of the UK?s leading veterinary virologists, will give an insight into the life of viruses, how they can cause disease and how farmers can protect their flocks from them.

The meeting, supported by Schering Plough Animal Health, will be chaired by vet Tim Bebbington. Admission is free and the meeting will begin at 7.30pm.
