AN award winning exhibition returned this week to the Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton.

'The People's Record,' the story of Okehampton and the country in 1908 and 1948, will once again be exhibited at the museum in West Street and will run until the end of October.

The museum earned an 'Inspire Mark' from the London Olympic committee 2012 for hosting the exhibition, which is helping to promote this worldwide sporting event.

The years, 1908 and 1948, relate to the years Great Britain last held the Olympic Games and the exhibition focuses on the life of Okehampton and district at those times.

Photographs, newspaper features, oral history, artefacts, maps and toys and stories give a glimpse what life was like during those two Olympic years.

There is also a board of photos provided by Puzzle Tree, Okehampton, looking forward to the 2012 London Games.

It is not too late for young people to enter the museum's writing competition. Maurie Webber, the museum's curator, said they would love for young people to use their imagination and write a story about 'time travel' — going back to 1908 or 1948 and then forward to 2012. There are three classes: aged 5-7, 8-11 and 12-18. Entries should be submitted to the museum.

Maurie said: 'The exhibition is a great way to help stimulate interest, and look forward, the Olympic Games being held in London in 2012.'

Admission is free to local residents to the exhibition. Opening hours during the week are 10.15am to 4pm. For more information call 01837 52295.
