TAVISTOCK Livestock Centre reports another exceptional sale on April 2, with an entry of 205 cattle maintaining the high prices of previous months.

Prices topped at £1,205 for four 21/23month old South Devon steers from J W Blowey, Tavistock. Mr Blowey sold an excellent run of eleven steers all 20/23 months old averaging £1,155.90 per head. Store heifers sold to £1,060 for a 23 month old South Devon from the same vendor, average price for four heifers £991 per head.

Other notable store cattle prices included £1,170 for a 23 month old South Devon x steer from M H Eggins, Roborough; £1,052 for a 23 month old Limouisin x steer from P T Hupton, Callington; £1,050 for a 23 month old Charolais x heifer from M H Eggins, Roborough; £980 for two 20 month old South Devon x steers from S and T Langton, Sampford Spiney; £975 for a 21 month old Belgian Blue x steer from W D Brown, Tavistock.

Notable younger cattle prices included £870 for a bunch of three seven to ten month old Charolais x steers from I G Mortimore and Son, Chagford, £868 for two eleven month old Simmental x steers from F and D Penwill, Mary Tavy and £745 for a group of four 12 month old Simmental heifers from F and D Penwill, Mary Tavy.

In the breeding cattle section, prices topped at £885 for a 12 year old South Devon cow from EJ Doidge, Whitchurch.

Cows and calves topped at £1,330 for a tenyear old South Devon cow with five month old Charolais x heifer at foot from C D Alford, Okehampton.

The next sale of breeding/store cattle and sheep will be the May Fair on Tuesday, May 7.
