THE spring mixed open at Okehampton Golf Club was held on Sunday in excellent weather.

There was some excellent scoring, especially from the home players, with Malcolm Hill and Lyn Hazleton scoring an excellent 46 points to win the home division.

Results ? Home division: 1, L Hazleton and M Hill 46 points; 2, L Rolfe and G Holt 43 points; 3, C and R Turner 39 points.

Visitor division: 1, Mr and Mrs Gawman (Tavistock) 35 points; 2, Mr and Mrs Sutton (St Austell) 34 points; 3, Mr and Mrs Spicer (St Kew) 33 points.

A better ball stableford was played by 63 pairs on Saturday. The glorious weather encouraged some excellent scoring in both divisions.

Results ? Division 1 (32 pairs): 1, D Keir and J Butcher 45 points; 2, J Bennett and M Aggett 44 points; 3, K Cornwall and J Cole 43 points (last 9)

Division 2 (31 pairs): 1, R Johnson and P MacDonald 46 points; 2, B Kelly and L Thomas 44 points (last 9); 3, N Redman and L Rolfe 44 points (last 9).

Okehampton continued their good start to the Dartmoor League season against Manor Moretonhampstead on Saturday, winning by 3 1/2 to 1 1/2.

Results: P Rattenbury and M Hooper won, A Hawking and M Cox won, B Hodges and A Shapland won, P Murphy and K Harkness halved, R Davies and N Heath lost.

Ladies? section ? the Okehampton Still Cup team played their away match against Staddon Heights on April 19 and won four matches to three.

The final scores, over both legs, were Okehampton 14 points, Staddon Heights six points.

On April 16 the Devon Ladies? League team played Holsworthy at Okehampton and won five matches to one. The final score was Holsworthy three points, Okehampton ten points.

On April 23 the ladies? league team played Libbaton at Okehampton and won four matches to two. The final score was Libbaton six points, Okehampton eight, a very good start to the season.

On Wednesday April 21 the ladies played the qualifier of the Coronation foursomes. The winners were Dawn Phillot and Penny Deakin (back nine) net 72; second were Amanda Clifford and Pat Kirby net 72. Dawn and Penny go on to play in the finals later this year.

Vets? section ? A total of 180 players took part in a vets? open on Monday April 19.

A heavy hail shower delayed the start but excellent weather prevailed for the rest of the day. The format was two from three stableford and there was close competition for both the home and visitor divisions.

Visitor division: 1, N Thomas, G Franklin, R Keating (Tiverton) 82 points; 2, W Renton, F Dobson, M Burke (Libbaton) 79 points; 3, P Worledge, B Manhire, R Brown (St Mellion) 79 points.

Juniors? section ? The juniors played their second EDJL match at Exeter Golf and Country Club on Sunday. The weather was excellent and the scoring was good with a combined score of 206 points.
