OKEHAMPTON Under 11s took part in the Devon under 11s Festival held at Tiverton. They were drawn in a tough group along with Newton Abbot, Kingsbridge and Tavistock. Their first outing was against Newton Abbot who were very tough opponents. Okehampton defended well and gave a good game but eventually ended up losing 20-0. In the game against Kingsbridge Okehampton came out fired up. The forwards of Buster Francis, Chris Courtier, Graham Bennie, Sam Cooper and Felix Gardiner kept on working hard putting them under pressure. A kick from Sam Ewing following up good by the backs led to Matthew scoring the first try with Okehampton going on to win 5-0. The last game in the game pool was against local rivals Tavistock with both teams in with a shout. But good tackling by the backs and good pressure by the forwards led to a spilt ball being picked up by Tom Fogerty to score the wining try. Coming second in the group matches led to Okehampton being entered into the shield knockout cup where they were drawn against Brixham. Brixham managed to get on the score sheet first but good running kept Okehampton in the game and leading to Ollie Kirby getting through and scoring an excellent try. Both teams had chances to win but a missed tackle led to Brixham scoring the final try.
