Devon 2 League North Tawton 0 Tamar Saracens 17 NORTH Tawton started well against top-of-the-league Tamar Saracens, having the advantage of a strong following wind. Within two minutes they had a penalty kick within range for fly half Paul Fewings to attempt, but this was missed. Another 30 metre penalty kick was missed by Tawton, this one bouncing off the posts, and the excellent follow-up by centre Zac Matravers almost resulted in a try. Tamar Saracens were first to score, but it took until the 30th minute before their strong loose-head prop broke through for a try, converted by the scrum half. Tawton returned to the attack and again were awarded a kickable penalty, only for this one to hit the post again. Play swung back to Saracens; this time it was they who had a penalty awarded close to Tawton?s 10 metre. A good running move was executed and their wing forward cut through the defence to touch down. The conversion was missed and Tawton had a final penalty attempt in injury time, but for the third time it bounced off the cross bar, leaving the score12-0 to the visitors at half time. The Tawton team put in an excellent performance against the wind in the second half, keeping Saracens pinned back in their half for long periods. Tawton nearly scored from a penalty move from 5 metres out, but were driven back by the strong defence. Credit for the second half display goes to the whole team but particularly to the hard tackling centres Zac Matravers and Andy Bourner. The frequent infringing by the Plymouth side was getting them on the wrong side of the ref and they ended up with 2 players being yellow-carded during the half. It was not until the 40th minute that they managed a final try. This came following a long downfield kick which bounced into touch close to Tawton?s line and the loose ball from the lineout broke in their favour. Although on the losing side Tawton took a very positive view of their performance.
