Lewdown Second XI v Cornwood Second XI

ON a wet and bowling-friendly wicket, Cornwood won the toss and predictably asked Lewdown to bat first.

Lewdown openers Ollie Brown and Martyn Squire, under instruction from their captain, made a lively start.

The running between the wickets and judging of quick singles was particularly pleasing. Approaching a century opening stand Squire was caught out on the boundary for an aggressive 56.

Brown also departed soon after for a fine 67.

With wickets in hand, the Lewdown batsmen maintained the aggressive batting with Worth hitting two big sixes before retiring hurt for 20. The innings ended on 193, being a challenging total on a wet wicket.

The Lewdown bowlers bowled with good discipline and were backed up by excellent fielding.

Andy Vernon was his usual miserly self, taking four for 14 off his ten overs, ably supported by Rob Squire with one for 25. Peter Cooper bowled well up th hill with fine figures of four for 13. Cornwood could only muster 106 for the loss of nine wickets.

An excellent result for Lewdown who garnished 19 points to Cornwood's seven and continue to threaten for the league title.

Next game is in two weeks when they again welcome Cornwood.
