TWO ladies of Okehampton Golf Club, Dawn Phillott and Penny Deakin, went to Libbaton Golf Club, along with Staddon Heights, Torquay and East Devon representatives, to play the finals of the Willes Little Cup.
Torquay versus East Devon and Okehampton versus Staddon Heights were on the morning?s agenda. With Okehampton?s Dawn and Penny giving Staddon three shots, excellent golf was played in a very sporting match. On the 15th par 5 hole both Okehampton and Staddon were on the green for three so decided to halve the hole as nobody deserved to lose it!
Penny and Dawn won this match 3 and 2 to set up the final against Torquay. For the first time in the whole campaign Okehampton ladies received two shots and made good use of them, beating Torquay five holes up with four to play.
A foursomes stableford took place incorporating the Killard Leavy qualifier for the Lady Veteran?s County Cup. The competition was won by Dawn Phillott and Lorna Rolfe, second were Penny Deakin and her partner Mary Keir. The Killard Leavy was won by Doris Jewell and Pat Kirby, who will be representing Okehampton in the finals; second were Sylvia Caunter (captain) and Eileen Piper.
The finals of the Tunisian Salver were played at Launceston Golf Club, Okehampton?s qualifiers were Marcia Holwill and Lyn Hazelton, who were well up in the field to finish fifth overall, a very creditable result.
