Duchy Premier St Mawgan 1 Gunnislake 4 WITH regular keeper Andy Brenton not available, Gunnislake welcomed Andy Woodward in to the team and the veteran keeper, who for many seasons was a regular, had an excellent game. Despite having the slope and wind in their favour Gunnislake made a slow start to this fixture with Saints on top in the opening 15 minutes. But the visitors got on top as the half wore on and were unlucky not to have a half time lead as the interval was reached goalless. The closest Gunnislake had come to scoring was when Andy Wakem earned his side a penalty. Steff Kelly looked to have maintained his 100% record from the spot when he powered home, but the youngster was made to retake his kick because of encroachment and second time round he struck wide. Often when playing against the elements at St Mawgan a side has to defend in the main and is restricted to breakaway attacks. But with every Gunnislake player performing well this was not the case and the visitors duly scored four times to deservedly gain victory. On 50 minutes Jarryd Kelly scored from close range following good work by Wakem who was played in by Steve Cribb but 10 minutes later Saints equalised. Gunnislake were not to be denied and were soon back in front when a Jarryd Kelly throughball saw Matt Avery get to the ball first to poke it past the advancing Saints keeper. Avery made a forceful run in to the penalty area that a home defender ended with a rash handball. Steff Kelly showed fantastic composure to step up and stroke home the penalty. Gunnislake?s scoring was completed when Darren Sambells robbed a defender of the ball and then calmly rounded the keeper to score. This Saturday Boscastle visit Gunnislake for the second leg of the Duchy Premier cup semi final. The match, which kicks off at 2.30pm, is finely poised with the hosts beginning with a 2-1 advantage.
