I WELCOME the opportunity to respond to two letters in last week?s Times concerning the timing of the Tavistock consultation exercise in connection with West Devon Borough Council?s core strategy preferred option. The council is holding a series of road shows specifically aimed at trying to engage hard to reach groups within the community who may be unaware of this important strategy. We understand the concerns of those people who are unable to attend the road shows during the day and with this in mind have arranged a further two consultation events for the Charter Hall in Okehampton on Monday July 3 from 5pm to 8pm and at the West Devon Borough Council offices at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock on Thursday July 6, also from 5pm to 8pm. The road shows are not intended to be the sole form of consultation. There are various ways for people to see the strategy document. It is available at the Tavistock and Okehampton council offices, at both town libraries, which are open until 7pm on some days, and on the council?s website http://www.westdevon.gov.uk">www.westdevon.gov.uk. In addition, officers can be contacted to discuss the proposals, by phone or in person (between 9am and 5pm) and by letter and email at any time. The consultation exercise covers a six-week period, which ends on July 12. I hope that as many people as possible will take advantage of these opportunities to discuss the proposals and make comments. It?s everyone?s opportunity to shape the area where they live ? speak out now. Cllr Margaret Garton Chairman of West Devon Borough Council?s future planning and housing committee
