QUESTION: Why do we need changes to our Royal Mail main Post Office in Tavistock? Answer: Because we in Great Britain are obliged to comply with EU regulation 97/67/EU and 2002/46/EC which opens up our postal service to competition. This will mean many of our rural Post Offices are closing and as we see in Tavistock will also have an effect on larger Post Offices. In the longer term our rural delivery will also be curtailed as it becomes uneconomic to deliver every day to country areas. Almost every day we hear of another piece of legislation from the EU that affects our lives. Recently we have had directives on beaches and bathing waters. Directives on composting, will mean some larger scale composting operations will no longer be economically viable and will be forced to close. The working time directive, will, if implemented, take away our freedom of choice as to working longer hours. The single farm payment scheme will control even more what we can and cannot do on our farms and reduce still further the amount of food we produce in the UK. Food supplements directive 2002/46/EC takes effect in August and will mean many health food shops being forced to close. It matters little which party is in power in Westminster, they cannot change the regulations and directives that come from Brussels. When will the people of this country wake up to the effect the EU is having on all our lives? We must leave this ghastly club that rules our lives more and more, or one day very soon we will find that all our freedoms are gone forever. George Mudge [email protected]">[email protected]
