NINE-year-old Erin-Jayne Porter from Tavistock has been chosen as this year's Tavistock Carnival Princess, together with attendants seven-year-old Erin Boulter from Mary Tavy and eight-year-old Zara Johnson from Milton Abbot.

The competition, which had been organised by the Lions Club of Tavistock, was judged by Anne Wroath, incoming Lions Club president Carole Gawn and Lyn Roberts from the Times, which jointly sponsored the competition with Lawson's of Tavistock.

The judges said they had been extremely impressed with all the young ladies who had entered and that it had been very difficult to choose between them.

Erin-Jayne will be crowned in the Meadows during the Carnival fun day on Sunday July 10 and with her attendants will lead the procession the following Saturday, the theme for which is 'Heroes and Villains'.
