IT'S not too late to help improve your local environment with an innovative grants scheme which was launched in the summer by West Devon Borough Council. But be quick – the closing date for applications is Friday, October 31.
Grants of up to £300 are available to residents of West Devon to fund small capital projects which could include anything from creating a community garden to putting a new bench at a beauty spot or even planting some trees.
The grants were introduced by the council following World Environment Day last June.
Cllr Chris Jenkins, chairman of the council's environment and community committee, said: 'We would encourage communities and individuals to come forward and bid for funds to help with local community projects.
'This is a no strings attached, quick and easy fund programme to help groups do something for their community with up to £300 for each project — whether it be bird boxes, reclaiming disused land by planting or clearing or having something made for the community.'
