ORGANISERS of the Tavistock Carnival have launched their search for this year’s carnival princess and attendants.

Tavistock Lions Club is looking for a young lady to wear the glittering tiara and wave a royal hand at this year’s carnival – so now is the chance for three lucky youngsters to step up to the vacant throne.

Tavistock’s ever popular carnival week starts on Saturday, July 9, with an action packed week of events for all the family culminating in the procession on the following Saturday.

As the Olympic Games will be taking place in Brazil this summer, the Lions Club has chosen ‘The Road to Rio’ as the carnival theme so they are hoping for plenty of music and spectacular costumes to rival Rio de Janeiro!

All applications for carnival princess must be made using the adjacent form. Applicants will be between the ages of 7 and 11 years on July 1, 2016 and live within the PL19 and PL20 postal districts.

The competition is sponsored by the Tavistock Times Gazette and Lawsons of Tavistock and the Lions Club is delighted with the continued support from both companies. The judging will take place at the Tavy Club, King Street, Tavistock on Tuesday, May 24 at 6pm with the official crowning during ‘Funday in the Meadows’ on Sunday, July 10 at 3pm. The Carnival Princess and attendants will lead the Carnival Procession through the streets of Tavistock on Saturday, July 16 so the lucky winners must be available for these dates.
