All the fun of the fair

Pipers at BM Fair
Pipers at BM Fair (BM Fair)

Buckland Monachorum Summer Fair has been traditionally held on the second Saturday in June for many years and the event seems to have developed from an older Village event known as the May Revels. For many years the Fair was held in the grounds of Pound House and then took place in the grounds of the village primary school, St Andrews. We now hold the Fair through our village street.

The organising of the day is undertaken by groups and charities within the Parish and all profits from the day are shared equally with these organisations.

The Fair begins at 13:00 with a Fancy Dress parade which starts at the Village Hall and ends outside the church. This year's theme is “TV, book or film characters” The parade will be led by The City of Plymouth Pipe Band.

As always there will be a various selection of stalls selling plants, toy, face painting and teas, coffees & cakes from the Chapel, a hog roast, burgers and ice creams and a raffle. Other enterainment will be JB Dance showing a display of street dancing and cheer leading provided by local childern.

Gables dog and cats home will be be holding a family dog show and starts at 14:00.

The Buckland Bounder will take place again this year and all the details are available on their website www.bucklandbounder.co.uk. So get your running gear out, clean up those trainers and enjoy a run around our lovely countryside.

If you fancy looking at the village from a different perspective, the Church tower will be open. Don’t forget your camera!!

There will be a dedicated kiddies play area on the Village green with all sorts of games just to keep those young minds entertained. We also have “Emazdad” a children’s entertainer walking through the fair showing close up magic tricks.

The City of Plymouth pipe band will be playing a medley of tunes for you to tap your toes to. There will be some lovely folk music later in the afternoon, provided by the Buckland Sessions.

All through the day we will be entertained by the Ferndale Community Radio Station from Plymouth, who will be live and playing all sorts of music. Pop along to the Chapel to visit them and have your requests played. They have over 2 million listeners on the internet.

If you wish to have a stall please book a pitch via the Chairman, Gary Baird on 01822 855272 and leave a message or email Gary at [email protected]. The fee for a pitch is £15 and payable on the day.

Car parking, which is free, will be clearly signposted.

We would like to remind our villagers that the road will be closed to traffic from 10:30 in the morning to allow the stall holders set up in safety and closes at 10:00 in the evening. This extended road closure will allow for a safe area while we enjoy the evenings musical entertainment. We apoligise to our residents for this inconvenience.

We would like to thank all those who support and assist in help putting on this event.

So come on down to Buckland Monachorum Summer Fair and we wish you an enjoyable day.
