AN action packed four weeks of entertainment is about to explode in Lydford, offering four top shows for only £20!
Following the recent improvements to the Nicholls Hall a full programme of events has now been booked to entertain and enthrall — including the newly formed LADA (Lydford Amateur Dramatic Association) in co-operation with the Tavonians' production of Canterbury Tales.
The season starts with a welcome return to Lydford from Kneehigh Theatre, presenting their own interpretation of a Charles Causley poem entitled 'Fishboy'. This is a briny story of a boy who yearns for the depths of the ocean while his family just want him to be normal! September 26 at 7.30p, £6/£5.
Next up are Simon Mayor and Hilary James, who bring their outstanding talents to the Nicholls Hall, Lydford on Saturday October 6 at 7.30pm.
Simon, regarded as Britain's leading mandolin virtuoso, is also a warm and funny raconteur, a fine fiddle player, guitarist, composer and wit with an unequalled reputation in folk, bluegrass and classical circles alike.
Hilary has a superb crystal clear voice and is an accomplished guitarist. Between them they present an entertaining mixture of music and humour which appeals to everyone from nine to 99 and where musically Beethoven sits alongside Hoagy Carmichael, Gershwin and Vivaldi.
This promises to be an evening to remember and early booking is advised. Tickets £3/£4.
The third offering as the evenings draw in is Canterbury Tales (abridged) from the newly formed performance group. This promises to be an eyebrow-raising look at medieval England with many, many surprises, bellylaughs and awkward situations! October 12 and 13 at 7.30pm. £5.
Finally the Fab Beatles provide an evening of nostalgia with get-up-and-dance tunes from the early Beatles' catalogue. Many of you have seen them on TV and will know how authentic their sound is. Disco plus bar. October 19 at 8pm. £8.
Tickets are available individually, or all four gigs for only £20! Tickets 01822 820479/820228 or Moorside Garage Lydford.
l Please note Kneehigh show is 7.30pm and not 8pm as on some advertisements!
