STUDENTS and staff at Tavistock College are entertaining and strutting their stuff to raise money for the High Dependency Unit at Derriford Hospital, which has special significance to them. The event, on Wednesday, July 19 at 5pm at the college, is being organised and hosted by Year 10 student Matthew Eglinton, whose friend and fellow student?s ten-month-old sister recently died from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. She had been treated at the HDU. Matthew said: ?This is a nasty disease and I feel that by raising money we can give something back to the hospital so they can purchase equipment and help other sufferers.? He said he had had a tremendous amount of support and help organising the event, and he wanted it to be ?a very special evening? to raise ?lots of money for a really important cause?. The gala-style concert will have live music, ranging from rock to jazz and blues, with several performers ? including Matthew on the piano, soloists and bands, and Rosemary and David Turner performing a karaoke-style Summer Nights from Grease. There will be dance and a catwalk featuring male staff and pupils dressed in female clothing and vice-versa. An auction will be fronted by fellow Year 10 student Joe Whaley, and there will be a raffle. The event can seat 300 people, with admission on the door being £2, although Matthew hopes people will give additional donations for the cause.
