TAVISTOCK teamed up with Liskeard to counteract the strength of Exeter. This resulted in game of two halves, with Exeter dominating the first half and Tavistock/Liskeard the second.

With a stiff breeze blowing behind Exeter in the first half, it was not the wind but the power and size of their front row which allowed them to score four unanswered tries in the first half. Their front row scored all the points. It was clear that tackling such power needed courage and good technique. With some gutsy tackling by Beth Hodgkiss the avalanche was stopped.

The second half was a different matter with the main threat negated.

The set pieces were predominantly won by Tavistock including two against the head, giving more scope for the backs to break through. Lizzie Crocker was brought into the second row in the second half giving strength and speed to the follow-up.

A few minutes into the second half Lily Mills broke from the scrum and danced through and round the Exeter backs and was only brought to ground by a high tackle. The resulting penalty saw Tavistock go over for a try under the posts.

Kim Upcott had the strength and stamina to out perform the Exeter scrum and the addition of Kayleigh Gatcom, who can perform well in both backs and forwards contributed to the 17 points scored by Tavistock in the second half.

Overall this was an exciting match to watch with fast movement of the ball and well executed tries by both sides.
