CALLINGTON produced a battling second half performance to grab a point against second placed Penryn.

The visitors started the game the better and it was no surprise when Drummond gave them a seventh minute lead that they held until the break.

The second period saw the home side step up the pace and the level of fitness showed as they began to dominate the final half an hour. The equaliser came when Hobbs beat the off side trap and after rounding the Athletic keeper, stroked the ball beyond the despairing legs of two defenders and into the net. Before then, Hobbs, Adam Coumbestock and Shane Krac all went close and but for some desperate defending and fine keeping, Town could have sunk the high flying Penryn side.

THE defensive difficulties that have caused Callington problems in the past showed themselves again as they went down by the odd goal in five at Roche.

The home side took an early lead through Dave Hoskin but Town were on level terms before the break as Chris Truscott headed home.

After the restart, the home side raced into a 3-1 lead through a Hoskin second, and Chris Bird before Callington?s new signing Luke Avis-Riordon reduced the arrears and led to a frantic final few minutes. The home side held on to grab all three points.

A WEAKENED Callington side held on to record their first point of the season with a hard earned draw against Foxhole at Stoke Climsland on Saturday.

With several players unavailable, Town were stretched, but those who played gave a strong performance and fully deserved a share of the spoils.
