Tavistock Colts 27

Bedwas Colts 27

TAVISTOCK Colts' season concluded with a visit from Welsh touring side, Bedwas RFC. The tourists had the early momentum and after a series of scrums and lineouts some close handling saw them go in from 15 metres for the first try.

The home side hit back but a tap penalty in the visitors' 22 saw the ball turned over and Bedwas clear; this forced Tavistock back and following a five metre scrum, the visitors touched down in the corner.

A break by Josh Leeson set up a ruck from which the ball was worked wide to Callum McCormick but he was forced out in the corner. Another break enabled the ball to be worked wide where Mark Friend burst up the wing to touchdown in the corner. Josh Leeson converted.

Bredas put the pressure back on and from a tap penalty a try in the corner seemed certain. However, Dan Cunningham turned over, picked up and streaked up the wing, evading tackles to go in for a superb individual try in the corner.

The half ended with Bredas on the attack but a tremendous covering tackle by Ed Longden kept them out.

The second half opened with the visitors getting an early try to regain the lead, however a Jez Cramoyson penalty levelled the scores. From the restart Rob Hockins' take enabled him to make ground and set up a ruck but the visitors turned it over, however a loose ball enabled Dan Oner to pick up and sprint from his own 22 to go in under the posts. Josh Leeson converted. Good work by Jez Cramoyson and Mark Friend enabled Jack Bond to break but he was forced out.

Tavistock then forced the visitors back deep into their own 22 but could not get over the line. Bedwas levelled the scores with a converted try and then took the lead with another try.

The home side hit straight back as Mark Friend broke off the back of a scrum on halfway. His run saw him go wide but his beautifully timed pass enabled Jack Bond to storm down the wing and go in for a score levelling try.

The final play saw Tavistock nearly snatch a win as a loose ball was hacked through but just rolled dead before a player could reach it. Both sides left the pitch to a warm round of applause for a thoroughly entertaining match.
