NEW members of Tavistock Golf Club and their guests enjoyed a buffet reception one evening last week. The event was hosted by the club?s president Dennis Greening, captain Tony Sherlock, chairman John Harding and committee members. In his welcoming speech Tony Sherlock spoke of the club?s long history and community involvement, giving as examples the two charities being supported during his year of office ? the Devon Air Ambulance and the oncology department at Derriford Hospital. He also introduced the individual members of the committee and some of the playing groups within the club such as the veterans, the ?Roll Ups? and another modest group calling themselves ?Tavistock?s Incredibly Talented Sportsmen?. Talent was indeed the byword in the club?s recent medal competitions with the flag positions on some greens in particular proving to be a real test of nerve and patience for the players.
