MORE than 50 players, supporters and vice presidents attended Belstone Cricket Club?s Annual Dinner and Awards night in the Village Hall last Friday. Skipper Wayne Pearce reflected on a highly enjoyable season which saw the team play 32 matches with 16 wins, 14 defeats, one drawn match and one abandoned. Club president Peter Hammond then presented the trophies. The Buckley Cup was accepted by Paul Coren, captain of the victorious Yeoford team, who finished top of the table with seven wins out of eight games. The Woodward Cup for Batsman of the Year was won by Johnny Coburn, who, in his first season with the club, hit 350 runs at an average of 50 with a highest score of 80 not out. Aidan Easterbrook won the Telecare Cup for best overall bowling average, taking 25 wickets at 12.5 runs apiece. The Barton Best Bowling Award for the best figures in a single match was won by Jonathan Parsons who helped dismiss Ashburton for 31 with figures of nine overs, three maidens, six wickets for eight runs (the best Belstone figures since 1999). The Fielding Award went to Andrew Paterson, who held 13 catches. The Duck Cup was won by wicket-keeper Johnny Carter, who failed to trouble the scorer on five occasions. Scoring 514 runs in the season with a top score of 90, Phil Woods was the Best Young Cricketer. Voted Clubman of the Year by his team-mates was Andrew Paterson, whose all-round performance in his first season with the Club included 289 runs, 39 wickets and 13 catches. Other awards went to Sue Jones (Belstone Ladies Cricket), Chris Walpole (Good Servants Trophy) and Barry Woods (Non-Playing Member Award).
