IT was an occasion of mixed feelings on Wednesday, July 23, when sadly the Mary Tavy and Brentor Under 5s met for the last time at the Coronation Hall, on what was a beautiful summer's day. A number of reasons have contributed to this situation, mainly due to lack of small children available and full-time working mums having to make other arrangements. For the last eight years, Mrs Cheryl Downham, ably assisted by Mrs Wendy Wright and Mrs Lorraine Beeley, have given sterling service with the various sessions on three days a week. The village is most grateful also to Mrs Pauline Emmott for her 20 years as a leader. Many old friends from the area, many former children from the group and the Mary Tavy and Brentor Community School, with their head teacher Mrs Nikky Pratten, were among those of us giving thanks for all the good that has been achieved over 43 years. As Cheryl said: 'It has been a delight to meet so many people on such a memorable day.' Tony Smith Lydford
