A YOUNG designer from Tavistock College has been presented with an international award. Sarah Bird, 18, won the Rotary International Young Technologist Award last month for the ladies? tweed embroidered jacket she created from scratch for her A-level exam. She was presented with a trophy, a certificate of merit and a £50 cheque for winning the category ?A-level textiles? out of nine students who entered from four different schools. Sarah, from Chillaton, had to make an original product for her course. The criteria was that it had to be made from scratch and of a vintage 1930s theme, inspired by the patterns of nature. She said: ?I came second last year and I was chuffed to win this year.? In September Sarah is off to Plymouth College of Art and Design to do the foundation fashion degree. Three other A-level textile Tavistock College students also competed, these were: Antonia Hudson, Bethany Watts, and Sarah Stenning.
