AN Exbourne youngster has been recognised as a top young writing talent after winning her way through to the final of a national competition.

Ten-year-old Elsa Hariades of Exbourne Primary School beat off competition from hundreds of other South West hopefuls to win the regional 'story' category.

More than 34,000 eight to ten-year-olds entered the competition called 'Write Here, Write Now 2003'.

Elsa's story will now go forward to the national final, with the overall winner set to be announced next month.
