WEST Devon electors now have the opportunity to register online or by Freephone to confirm their electoral register details in minutes. It is the first time the council has been able to offer this high-tech service and it is open to those households where the details remain unchanged. Electoral registration forms will be dropping on doormats very soon. By simply dialling the Freephone number 0800 197 9854 or logging on to the secure website http://www.registerbyinternet">www.registerbyinternet. com/westdevon and keying in your special two part security code, which can be found on your form, you will be prompted to confirm the household details and the process is complete. The fully automated touch-tone service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the canvass period, which runs from September to November. Both systems will also accommodate users wishing to apply for a postal or proxy vote application form and to add or remove their names from the edited version of the register. However, those households whose circumstances have changed, must complete the forms as normal and return them by post. If you need to, it is possible to register by phone in another language. To use this facility Freephone 0800 107 9854 and when prompted, press (1) for Bengali (2) for Chinese (Cantonese) (3) for French (4) for Greek (5) for Italian (6) for Polish (7) for Portuguese (8) for Spanish or (9) for Turkish. The council hopes that the new system will be more convenient for householders. It will also mean a reduction in postage costs, but only if electors only use the new system and do not return the form as well.
