AN 80-year-old woman with a serious head injury was found by Tavistock firefighters last Thursday at Pinder Court in King Street. A crew from the station was called to the address after a report of fire alarms activating. But upon arrival firefighters confirmed it was a false alarm and found the woman lying on the floor suffering from a head injury. Fire crews gave first aid. The casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance. l Firefighters were called to extinguish a fire at a property in New Park, Horrabridge, last Sunday. A crew from Yelverton and one from Tavistock attended just before 11pm when neighbours heard the smoke alarm. They found a small fire in the ground floor flat of a two-storey mid-terraced property, and used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel to tackle the blaze. Firefighters managed to rescue five birds from the flat. Firefighters remind people to check their smoke alarms every day, and if they are concerned with any fire safety issues, then contact them. l Yelverton firefighters were called to extinguish a car fire last Friday on Iron Mine Lane in Dousland. One crew from Yelverton attended just after 3.10pm and found the vehicle well alight. They used one hose reel to tackle the blaze which left the car severely damaged. Police are treating the incident as suspicious. l A small child was rescued by firefighters on Saturday after becoming stuck on a rock in the Yelverton Aerodrome. Yelverton firefighters attended just before 6pm and rescued the child from the rock face using a triple extension ladder. Firefighters warn children to be careful and remind adults to watch their children at all times.
