THE DML Club hosted the South Devon Cross-country 'mini' league on Sunday in the grounds of Saltram House. Although the course was affected by the previous day's heavy rain, conditions were moderate with only two or three muddy patches.

In the under 11 girls' race the Tavistock club were well represented and dominated the front of the field with Emma Passmore finishing in second place, Sarah Guy in fourth, Kathryn Dolton in fifth and Grace Perry, sixth.

In the under 15 boys' event Robert Jinman ran a courageous race taking the lead early on and forcing the pace. He seemed to be heading for an easy victory with a clear lead on the final lap but was caught on the last hill and finished in second place.

Frances McKinnon, enjoying a break from her final year at Loughborough University, made a welcome appearance for the club in the senior ladies' event. Frances ran strongly and finished comfortably in third place.

In the senior men's race Robin Musgrave finished in ninth place.

l The dramatic improvement by the Tavistock club in the Sportshall League events has been recognised with eight junior members selected to represent the county. Kathryn Dolton, Kayleigh Wonnacott, Grace Perry, Emma Passmore, Sarah Guy, Lizzy Bentley, Adam Waddle and Jimmy Hubbard have all been selected to represent Devon at an inter-county sportshall meeting on January 16 at Paignton.
