VOLUNTEERS from Tavistock and District Conservation Project — along with parents, pupils and teachers from St Andrew's School, Buckland Monachorum will be busy putting the finishing touches to their pond on Saturday.

Pond and bog plants donated by Champernownes Nursery are being planted around the new pond to create a superb wildlife habitat and educational resource for the school.

Tavistock and District Conservation Project spokesman Paul Hawkins said various improvements had been made to the environmental area at the school with assistance from the Pennon Environmental Fund and the Devon Wildlife Trust.

'Boardwalks, stiles and paths have been repaired and improved. Examples of hedge laying and dry stone walling have been completed. Log seats and a table have been installed and a large pond constructed,' he said.

'Pupils from the school have provided enthusiastic help and encouragement during the project.

'The area offers a wide variety of flora and fauna for children to study and enjoy while learning more about their local environment,' said Mr Hawkins.
