Tavistock 2

Plymouth A 1

TAVISTOCK men's hockey team dominated the previous season's league winners in the last league home fixture of the season.

Showing the style of play that has become Tavistock's hallmark, the home side starved the opposition of the ball. Switching play across the pitch, the networking style began to create openings and after 10 minutes Carl Jeffery slotted home.

The game plan was scuppered when Plymouth scored the equaliser with a breakaway goal that left keeper Martin Osborne stranded.

The second half continued with countless chances missed and some fine reflex saves by the visiting keeper.

Tavistock were determined to take maximum points and entrenched themselves in Plymouth's half.

It took a great goal from Edwards to put the game outside the reach of Plymouth, when he wrong-footed the keeper.

Falmouth 2

Tavistock 3

TAVISTOCK travelled all the way to Falmouth on the Sunday to conclude the league season and finish in the top three of South West 1.

Again dominating play and moving the ball around well, a win looked on the cards, but Falmouth broke down the centre and took a 1-0 lead.

After a confident half time talk the visitors went in pursuit of the win.

But Falmouth were beginning to play with more confidence and scored their second early in the second half.

This seemed to be the turning point in Tavistock's fortunes and they began to claw back the lead.

A great reflex goal by Bellard was followed shortly after by a close-in flick by Jefferys to even the score.

Falmouth began to show their frustration after losing a two-goal lead and things went from bad to worse when Jefferys scored his second and Tavistock's third to conclude a tense afternoon.

Bude 4

Tavistock 2nd XI 0

TAVISTOCK Second's hockey club travelled to Bude with a side containing youth and experience, but somewhat lacking in players to fill the gap between the veterans and youths.

Tavistock began confidently, and were unfortunate to concede a goal when a clearance was intercepted.

Defence and mid-field played well but attacks broke down in the opponents' 25 when the 'killer pass' was not forthcoming. Wills, in defence, had another good game playing with intelligence and Rowe again was the powerhouse of the midfield.

Bude's second goal came when Tavistock hesitated expecting the whistle to go for an infringement.

During the second half Jones had a good game on the right wing and Rowe was unlucky to see his shot hit the post. The Tavistock defence had little to do for long periods, but when Bude broke away they did so in both strength and depth and were twice able to score when the two full backs found themselves overwhelmed by mass attacks.
