HATHERLEIGH will experience the Edwardian era this Saturday, with the latest event to celebrate the centenary year of the town?s carnival.

An Edwardian Fete is being held in Hatherleigh Square, and will be opened at 3pm by this year?s carnival president Mrs Olive Reynolds.

The fete will feature a children?s fancy dress parade led by Hatherleigh Silver Band.

The children will have the opportunity to make their own costumes with crepe and tissue paper at the workshops that the carnival committee are running at the primary school with the kind support of head Mrs Linda Mitchell, and all the teachers.

There will be lots of traditional stalls and games and musical entertainment by the band plus tea and refreshments.

The carnival committee are hoping this event will be yet another success following on from their two previous centenary events.

Committee member Louise Bater said they would like to thank everyone who helped make the ?Past Carnival Kings, Queens and Presidents? evening such a memorable occasion ? especially those who loaned so many photographs and costumes.
