St Rumon’s Church of England Infant School in Tavistock has been closed today for an extended half term period after a teacher tested positive for Covid -19.

In a statement to the Times today Jo Evans, CEO of St Christopher’s Multi Academy Trust of which the school is part said: ‘Following advice from Public Health England (PHE) and the Department for Education (DfE) we have closed St Rumon’s from today until Tuesday, November 3.

‘This is due to a member of our school community testing positive, the need for staff to self-isolate and the size of the school.

‘This period of closure includes the planned half-term holiday and we look forward to welcoming our pupils, teachers and staff back to their school when it is safe to do so after the break.

As a community we are being extremely vigilant around our Covid-19 measures and remain in regular contact with the relevant authorities.’

The school has less than 100 pupils, aged from four to seven.
